“Friends for now, forever”. The saying goes good as college is a dream place for every student were “You will laugh, you will cry, you will eat your heart out and tear your hair out, you will curse the world in general but that were your career gets built. For me UCA is something more than special, it has not only given me a career but also has helped me look at the world with more confidence, along with profound knowledge, despite having lot of hardship in the early days. Textbooks can prescribe the basics, but there’s no replacement for a teacher that can say, ‘This is what I do and it led to these results. ‘and I am proud to UCA gave us the best. We owe a lot to our Prinicpal Mr. T B Ramanathan and other faculty to name a few Prof I.S.Shanmugam, Dr.Cecilia Issac, Prof Amanula beig and the doyen of Orthopaedics Prof Natarajan without whom we would not have achieved this level in our career. They were humble, passionate, skilful, teaching from their personal experience, and excited to show us the path for the career growth. There teachings helped us to improve not just during the course, but also in professional career.
The week-end case discussion was always a night mare for most of us with Prof I S Shanmugam and Principal Mr.T.B Ramanathan, sitting in the first row waiting to spring up on us all – which has helped us to shape our knowledge and the clinical acumen. The clinical hands on experience during college days and internship posting was outstanding, which every professional student would dream to have in their college career. Each and every one of us are proud to say that “I belong to the first batch of UCA”. Having graduated, from UCA i started my career in Tamilnad Hospital as a Junior Physiotherapist to where I am now heading the Department of Physiotherapy in India’s most prestigious Hospital Cancer Institute (WIA), Chennai. It’s a pride to see that the UCA has grown to this height over the period of time. Wishing UCA good luck and waiting to see many laurels come across your way.
When I travel back the memory lane and think about the UCA days, I can’t help but smile. Founder member of UCA, late Mrs. K.C. Tharian recommended me to enroll at UCA. I still remember walking into UCA’s first facility and requesting Prof T.B. Ramanathan to issue me an application form to enroll in the physiotherapy program. His reply with a bright smile on his face was “it is not yet ready, please come back after few weeks” . I must have gone back atleast three times before I got hold of the application form. I was one of the first to apply for the course in 1993. As a teenager I never knew that the skill sets and professionalism I honed during my education at UCA will continue to serve me for the years to come. The faculty, with a wide range of specialties like Prof T.B. Ramanathan and Prof I.S. Shanmugam to legends like Prof M. Natarajan and Prof Ambika Shanmugam (Authors of Orthopedics and Biochemistry textbooks respectively) exposed me to areas of clinical practice that I never knew existed. UCA’s comprehensive curriculum emphasized on equal importance for subjects like English, Microbiology, Pathology, Pharmacology and Biochemistry apart from the regular Physiotherapy and Clinical subjects. I never knew that the strong knowledge base of these allied subjects like Pharmacology will play an important role in my current career in clinical trials. As soon I passed out of UCA, I had the opportunity to begin my career as a Lecturer at UCA college of Physiotherapy. The amazing array of opportunities UCA provided me undoubtedly “transformed” me into a well-rounded clinician with the knowledge and skills to make a difference in people’s lives. This paved the pathway for me to transition into a career in clinical research and trials.
The challenges, turmoil and insecurities I faced as the first batch students at UCA has made me evolve into a confident and stoic professional. Today I’m able to sit in a global forum with pioneers in the Biopharmaceutical industry to discuss efficacy and patient safety with confidence; because of the training and guidance I received at UCA. I’m proud to be part of UCA and I’m assured that UCA will continue to provide quality education as they have been contributing for the past 27 years.
College life is like a rite of passage for many of us, it is the culmination of hard work in school and beginning of realising once lifelong dream and ambition. You carry memories and make bonds of a lifetime with people you never-ever forget! This is also a place that moulds your personality and outlook to life in general, gives you the confidence to take on the world!
It was a huge privilege, belonging to the first batch of UCA, I along with my dear friends from this batch was able to contribute in our own way to the growth of this wonderful institution and able to fly the UCA flag high around the world. Despite all the challenges faced during the initial days, the management and the academic team of UCA never wavered in their objective to ensure that we got the best education that was on offer, being taught by some of the greatest teachers of the time. The strong academic foundation helped me immensely through my professional career. I was also fortunate having had the opportunity to serve this institution initially as a Lecturer as soon as I graduated in ’96 and later as the Vice-Principal before I took the plunge to fly out of the nest to pursue higher education in the United Kingdom. It fills my heart with pride to see that our college has grown from strength to strength in the last 28 years and happy in the knowledge that I will be a witness to many more successes waiting to happen in the years ahead. Best wishes to the UCA family!
There were so many good things about my time at the College, knowledgeable teachers and extremely friendly environment. My professors helped us to perform to our best capabilities. My time at UCA has equipped me with excellent skills along with the academic knowledge to handle, execute and manage various clinical, non-clinical and managerial situations. We were the first batch of private college physiotherapy student to undergo clinical training in a government hospital at Rajiv Gandhi Government General hospital, Chennai in the year 2004. The Internship period was awesome! We saw the textbooks being converted into live in the hospital in form of patients.
I would give the credit of my present achievement to my college and professors. The discipline and knowledge that I gained in this institute is still helping me reach heights in my career. The excellent standard and quality of education I received became even more obvious when I stepped out of college and in the professional world.

Hello everyone, I am Arun Joseph and I undertook the Bachelor of Physiotherapy programme from 1999-2003 at the UCA College of Paramedical Sciences. I am currently a Physiotherapy Lecturer at the Coventry University and also a doctoral student at the University of Oxford, UK.
The teaching in UCA was undertaken by retired professors from Madras Medical College and was exceptional. The Physiotherapy lecturers were professional and knowledgeable and helped to understand the core skills that was required to practise the profession with integrity and adept clinical reasoning. My special thanks to everyone who had contributed to my undergraduate education in this institute which was a solid foundation for rest of my career as a critical care/ respiratory physiotherapist.
It was an extraordinary life experience at UCA with more than just bookish knowledge. It is a institution of knowledge and values, led by very dedicated and highly qualified team of faculty and mentors. We are extremely lucky in having them as our gurus... The support I got from my Professors made me to experiment many things. The lectures rendered by visiting faculty expanded my knowledge horizon... Being a member of the UCA family is such a unique experience. It is a great place to go if you want to grow intellectually and spiritually.I am extremely privileged to be alumni of this wonderful institution.
It is my immense pleasure to write as a former student of UCA college 2000 batch. My studying experience at UCA College was indeed unforgettable and significant. We had well experienced and expertise faculties who were handling the internal and externals for various subjects. For our Anatomy class we had a cladavar to study in detail for the concerned subjects whenever and however required of, at that time most colleges do not have these facilities to enable students to learn hands on.
During our study for the clinical postings we had the privilege of visiting MMM Hospital which is one of the top hospitals for Cardiac. We had a physiotherapy department in our college where we got trained and bagged many experiences in the practical sessions. Also we could able to do our internship at the Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital for 6 months which again a landmark hospital in the Chennai city.
As soon as I finished my internship I got posted in CSI Kalyani Multispeciality Hospital as a Junior Therapist. Presently I am heading the Department of Physiotherapy as a Senior Physiotherapist. I thank the Almighty for helping me to study BPT at UCA paramedical college which has paved the way to shape my career and helped me immensely to be where I am today. I am thankful to all my teachers and staffs of UCA College who went the extra mile to help me personally by all means in fulfilling my dream. I am forever thankful to you all sir.

I completed my Internship in Kilpauk Medical College which was one of my best exposure I ever had till date. Madam, Mrs. Thenmozhi, HOD and Madam, Mrs. Vidya, Chief Physiotherapist guided and supported me with advance techniques and protocols in the field of Physiotherapy.
